Fico feliz da vida quando vou começar um novo projeto! Com a proximidade do primeiro aniversário da filha de uma colega de trabalho muitíssimo querida, comecei a procurar a receita de um gorro bem lindo para presentear o bebê.

Eu encontrei a receita perfeita, o fio perfeito e comecei a tricotar. Quando tricoto sempre confio na receita e até então nunca havia tido problema algum. Mas desta vez escolhi uma receita cujas instruções não eram muito claras. E eu, que quase nunca faço modificações, tive de fazer a receita funcionar, porque essa receita realmente é muito fofa.

As instruções dizem “costurar toda a parte de trás do gorro”, o que está errado. Devemos costurar a parte de trás até o início das diminuições ou até a metade do comprimento. Desse modo, teremos um gorro com duas abas laterais, uma à direita e outra à esquerda.

As instruções das orelhas também não são muito claras. Apenas dizem para fazer as costuras das orelhas e depois costurar as orelhas ao gorro. Para dar forma à orelha devemos dobrar a borda da montagem dos pontos ao meio e costurá-la. Fazer o mesmo com a borda do arremate dos pontos. Então devemos dobrar toda orelha ao meio e costurá-la ao gorro.

Apesar da improvisação eu fiquei muito satisfeita com o resultado e espero que mamãe e bebê também fiquem felizes com o presente!

Atualização: acabei de ver que a receita foi corrigida!

I get so happy when I’m about to start a new project! With the proximity of the first anniversary of a very loved coworker’s baby girl, I started to look for the pattern of a very beautiful hat to give to the baby.I found the perfect pattern, the perfect yarn and started knitting it. When I knit I always trust the pattern and so far I’ve never had any trouble. But this time I’ve chosen a pattern whose directions weren’t very clear. And I, who nearly never do modifications, had to make the pattern work, because this pattern is really very cute.

The directions says “sew up the back seam”, which is wrong. We should sew the back until the beggining of the decreases or halfway of the back. This way, we end up with a hat with two side bands, the right and the left.

Directions for the ears aren’t very clear too. It only tells you to sew the seams of the ears and then sew the ears on the hat. To shape the ear you should fold it in half at the cast-on edge and sew it. Then we should do the same with the bind-off edge. Then fold the entire ear in half and sew it on the hat.

Despite having to improvise I’m very happy with the result and I hope both mother and baby be happy with the gift!

Update: I’ve just found out that the pattern has been corrected!

No ano passado, um garoto lindo que mora no meu coração pediu que eu tricotasse para ele um gorro com aranhas. “Você quer um gorro do Homem Aranha?”, perguntei. “Não, não. Só um gorro com umas aranhas”. Durante duas semanas trabalhei apenas no gráfico. Risquei e apaguei inúmeros quadrinhos até que fiquei satisfeita! Mas não fique com a impressão errada, o gráfico é muito simples. Eu demorei duas semanas em terminá-lo porque sou uma tricoteira de hábitos noturnos!

Achei que seria um barato para um garoto de oito anos ter um gorro que poderia ser usado do lado direito e avesso. Então me empenhei em aprender o método de tricô duplo (double knitting), no qual uma peça é tricotada com duas faces contrapostas, de maneira que não tem avesso. Depois de ler e assistir alguns vídeos, tricotei uma amostra simples, um pequeno quadrado mostrando uma cor de um lado e outra cor do outro, para me familiarizar com a técnica. No início achei um pouco complicado e desajeitado, o que é natural quando aprendemos algo sozinha. Depois tornou-se muito fácil e até instintivo.

Quando tricotei a amostra com o desenho da aranha pude antecipar os erros mais comuns que iria cometer. Foram três tentativas para que a amostra ficasse apresentável. Vi que seria fundamental prestar sempre muita atenção nas cores dos pontos meias e dos pontos tricôs. Fazendo a amostra também aprendi a contar os pontos, pois cada quadrinho do gráfico corresponde à dois pontos tricotados: um ponto da camada externa e outro da interna. A primeira fotografia mostra os dois lados da amostra simples que tricotei.

Estava pronta para iniciar o gorro e desmanchei a amostra sem ter medido o seu tamanho. Por causa disso, ainda iria desmanchar o gorro mais duas vezes. Na primeira tentativa, montei 96 pontos na agulha circular número 5mm e o gorro ficou muito largo. Desmanchei e montei 80 pontos. Continuou largo. Desmanchei novamente, troquei a agulha para uma agulha circular 4mm e montei 80 pontos. Acertei!

Last year, a handsome boy that lives in my heart asked me if I could knit him a hat with spiders. “Do you want me to knit you a Spider Man’s hat?”, I replied. “No, just a hat with some spiders.” During two weeks I worked on the drawing. I risked and erased counless little squares until I was satisfied! But don’t get the wrong idea, the chart is very simple. It took me two weeks to finish it because I’m a knitter with nocturnal habits!

I thought it would be great for a eight years old boy to have a hat that could be worn from outside and inside out. So I worked hard to learn the double knitting technique, in which the fabric is knitted with two layers facing opposite to each other, so there is no wrong side. After reading and watching some videos, I knitted a simple swatch, a small square showing one color on one side and another color on the other, to become familiar with the technique. At first it was complicated and even awkward, which is expected when we learn something by ourselves. Sooner it became very easy, and yet instinctive.

When I knitted the swatch using the graphic of the spider I could see the common mistakes I would make. It took me three trials to make a presentable swatch. I realized it would be key paying closer attention on the color of the knit stitches and the color of the purl stitches. By knitting the swatch I also learned how to count the stitches, because each square of the graphic corresponds to two knitted stitches: one stitch of the outer layer and another one of the inner layer. The first photograph shows both side of the simple swatch I made.

I was ready to start knitting the hat and frogged the swatch before taking its measurements. Because of this, I would frog the hat twice. On my first trial, I casted on 96 stitches using circular needle US #8/5mm and the hat turned out large. I frogged and casted on 80 stitches. It’s yet large. I frogged again, I changed the needle to a circular needle US#6/4mm and I casted on 80 stitches. I got it right!

receita traduzida – Gorro Odessa

Depois de tricotar o gorro Odessa mais de sete vezes e estar prestes a montar os pontos de outro, pensei: por que não pedir a autorização de Grumperina para traduzir sua receita? Esse gorro é um charme e as contas peroladas dão um ar de anos 20, de melindrosa. Sem falar que tricotá-lo é muito gostoso.
